
Chitwan National Park (estd. 1973), the first of it's kind in Nepal, is situated in southern central part of Nepal and covers 932 sq. km comprising sub tropical and tropical low land of inner Terai region.
The Chitwan National Park, which UNESCO enlisted as a World Heritage Site in 1984, is gifted with natural wonders and cultural treasures. The park is famous for its flora and fauna. It is considered a paradise for bird watchers with over 529 species of birds recorded. It has unique wildlife diversity with abundant of butterflies, moths and 57 different mammals including Asian Elephants, One horned Rhinos, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Leopard, Royal Bengal Tiger etc. There are over 80 species of reptiles namely Python, King Cobra, Gavial, Marsh Mugger Crocodiles and scaly Ant-eater. The National Park has three types of basic vegetations - oxbow lakes, swamps and watering holes.
